Educational Background

Throughout his career as a performer Petito has always taken great joy in teaching music. His passion for playing and teaching music led him to complete a Bachelor’s of Music from the Eastman School of Music with a double major in Jazz Guitar Performance and Music Education and to earn his NY state teaching certification. Later, he returned to the Eastman School to earn his Master’s of Music in Music Education, and is currently pursuing a second Master’s in Studio Composition at SUNY Purchase. Petito has experience teaching musicians of all ages and skill levels and has had the honor of holding several teaching posts at prestigious music schools including teaching college students at the Eastman School of Music, students of all ages at the Eastman Community Music School and the Rochester Contemporary School of Music. In addition, Petito has experience leading competitive school music programs through his roles as the Director of Jazz Bands at Rochester’s School of the Arts from 2018-2022, and his current role as Concert and Jazz Band Director at Byram Hills High School in Armonk, NY.

In the Summers of 2015 and 2016 Petito served as a member of the faculty at Miclen Laipang’s Southeast Asia Music Festival, located in the southern Philippines, where he taught guitar and music theory and in 2016 returned to also serve as the Composer in Residence. Each Summer Petito returns to the Eastern US Music Camp at Colgate University to direct the Guitar Program and their Contemporary Rock Program.
